World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated annually on the 26th of April since 2000 when the event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The purpose of the celebration is to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life and to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe. Each year a theme is associated with the celebration. This year’s theme is “Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity”.

The Zimbabwe Institute of Patents and Trademark Agents will be hosting a celebration of World IP Day in conjunction with ARIPO at the ARIPO headquarters. The event will include free IP consultation open to the public between 11:30am and 12:00pm.
